Mill Pond Park, Mill Town, NJ 01-10-2012
|
Mill Pond is a section of the dammed upstream of Raritan River, passing through Milltown, New Jersey. Mill
Pond Park is a recent development, it has a paved walk along the river and through the wooded area as well
as a parking area entered through S. Main Street one block south of the bridge. For years I have stopped to see
the birds in the pond. This time I got the camera with me. As New Jersey is on the eastern migration pathway
for the birds, you can expect to see some water birds along any good sized body of water. I had a pleasant
walk a few days ago, and I'm sharing what I saw with you. Hoping that you will check out the ponds near you.
Mill Pond Park: These Geese and ducks invited my for a walk when I drove by like the cars over the pond.
The two little white dots on far right intrigued me.
The white spots are the crests of the male "Hooded Merganser". The crest can be raised or lowered to show only a stripe
of white. The female Hooded Merganser has a frosted brown crest, as seen in these shots.
A pair of extra friendly Mallards came to get fed, but I was not prepared to feed.
A pair of Hooded Merganser.
From the back, the crest has a black
line.
The Hooded Mergansers are lively and active, This one is splattering water.
This one is standing up.
It's not easy to get a good picture of him.
Soon my walk passed the Mill Pond and come to the wooded area, I met a group of some 10 house(the darker ones) and
tree(the lighter ones) sparrows. Many shots were taken, this is the only one not in big blur.
