The beginning of December 2005 was warm, I scheduled to pick up my painting, which was awarded at the
Rutherford Art Show. On my way back, visited Hackensack Meadowlands Development Commission Environment
Center and Liberty State Park. Ruddy Ducks were spotted in the former; Brant mixed with Canada Geese in the
latter. I couldn't pass on the Ring-billed Gulls taking hand-outs from people. December 14, a bitterly cold day, the
Raritan river was almost frozen up; but the geese and gulls didn't seem to mind, nor did the animals in Johnson Park.

Complete with miles of trails and blinds, the Environmental Center is an excellent birding sight.
Ruddy ducks are
shy.
Compared to Canada Goose, Brant is smaller and  an inconspicuous neck patch.
