17 mile Drive, from Monterey to Carmel
It is a beautiful drive. The rocky shore has black rocks, blue sea, the red ice plant and white splashes. Children play
with sand, artist painting and birds occupy rock out cropping to be their island. The sun beams on every thing making
it so bright. The well maintained road with signs guiding or explaining makes it worth the fee they charge.
The first bird island was
occupied by Herring
Gull.
The black-backed Gulls?
They are supposed to
be on the east coast
only. I don't get it.
You'd see people
photographing birds,
like me.
Sea lions are playing in
the more sheltered
cove.
I can't identify this little bird. Please
help if you know.
Watercolorists, oil
painter, pastel artist all
concentrating on their
art.
Hauling out, the
sunbathing Harbor Seal
and Sea lions. You can
easily miss them if you
don't look for them.
Cool Spray!
Cormorants did it again.
Another bird island.
Ice Plant, this imported
plant from South Africa
is not only colorful but
also does a great job in
keep the beach from
eroding away.
Hauling out again.
Ice plant is normally
green, I don't know
when and why some
turns red, but the colors
of different shades are
sure beautiful.
One lone Canada
goose lost his/her mate,
could be injured too.
The Crucker Grove, the
only pure stand of
original Monterey
Cypress.
Lone Cypress, the landmark is at least
250 years old.
Carmel Coast.
I hope that you enjoyed
this 17 mile drive.
Cormorants on their
